Author: Carole Parker

With age our skin begins to loose the appearance of vigor and youth. And one of the signs of aging becomes wrinkles. Sure you won’t find magic cream that will erase every wrinkle off your face. But there are indeed some natural herbal remedies that will improve your skin condition noticeably, and you don’t even have to spend a lot of money doing it. All ingredients for them can be found in your own kitchen. Let’s look together.

Carrot cream. Take 100 grams of carrot and one teaspoon of almond oil. Extract juice from the carrots. Add oil in it and mix well. Refrigerate it for two hour and apply on cheeks, around the eyes and the chin for half an hour. Finally wash with lukewarm water.

Honey anti-wrinkle mask. Take one and half tablespoon of honey, half teaspoon of carrot juice, a pinch of soda bicarbonate. Mix carrot juice and honey and apply on face for 20 minutes with a cotton ball dipped in soda bicarbonate water. Then wash with warm water.

Banana wrinkle fighter recipe. Banana is wonderful as an anti-wrinkle treatment. Mash 1/4 banana until very creamy. Spread all over face and leave for 15-20 minutes before rinsing off with warm water followed by a dash of cold. Gently pat dry.
And another variant of this mask. Take one ripe banana and one teaspoon of rose water. Mash banana and mix it with rose water. Apply it on face and neck and wash it off after half an hour.

Glycerin and honey mask. Take one tablespoon of glycerin and one tablespoon of honey. Mix the ingredients and massage on face and neck before going to bed. Wash your face with soft water in the next morning.

Apple mask. Mash an apple and use it as a mask. It is very good in treating wrinkles as it is rich in vitamins.

Peach and lemon face pack. You need 2 peaches and 1 teaspoon lemon juice. Mash the peaches and to this mixture add lemon juice. Apply on your face and neck for 15-20 min. Wash off and follow it up with a moisturizer.

Anti-wrinkle mask. Beat 1 egg yolk into 2 tablespoons of whole milk. Gently wash face and apply. Leave on for five minutes, rinse with warm water, and follow with your favorite moisturizer.

Egg white and olive oil face mask. Take 1 egg white, 1 teaspoon lemon juice and 1 tablespoon olive oil. Beat egg white until smooth add the juice of lemon and olive oil. Apply to face and neck a few hours before retiring to bed and leave it on for 20 minutes. Wash off and follow with your moisturizer. Photofacial Non-surgical Anti-aging Skin Care Treatment to Remove Sun Damage and Rejuvenate Your Skin

Author: Dr Brooke R. Seckel

Photofacial skin care treatments, also called IPL, short for Intense Pulsed Light, are very effective, no down time, safe methods for removing pigment, or brown spots, and excess or broken blood vessels from the facial skin. Browns spots, broken blood vessels around the nose, chin and cheeks are classic signs of sun damage and aging of the facial skin. Brown spots, often called age spots are caused by pigment that is produced by the skin to protect the skin from the harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun. New blood vessels grow into the skin in response to skin injury, first to wash out damaged skin debris and later to bring in healing factors. As our skin ages, the brown spots and broken blood vessels are left behind on the skin after the inflammation or skin injury has passed. These pigmented and red vascular spots create an aged variegated appearance to the facial skin which is called dyschromia, and is a sign of facial aging. Photofacial skin care treatments are the treatment of choice for benign facial skin pigmentation, age spots, brown spots and broken blood vessels and small red spots called telangiectasia on the face. Photofacial treatments are now preferred over laser treatments for these specific pigment and vascular lesions.

What Causes Age Spots, Sun Spots, Red Blotches and Broken Blood Vessels on the Face Neck and Décolletage?

Browns spots and broken blood vessels around the nose, chin, cheeks, neck, hands and Décolletage are classic signs of sun damage and aging of the skin. Brown spots, often called age spots are caused by pigment that is produced by the skin to protect the skin from the harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun. New blood vessels grow into the skin in response to skin injury by the sun. This process of new blood vessel growth is called inflammation.

The new blood vessels bring blood into the facial skin first to wash out damaged skin cell debris and later to bring in skin healing factors.

As our skin ages, the brown spots and broken blood vessels are left behind on the skin after the inflammation or skin injury has passed. These pigmented and red vascular spots create an aged variegated appearance to the facial skin which is called dyschromia, which is a sign of facial aging.

Photofacial skin care treatments or IPL treatments are the non-surgical anti-aging skin care treatment of choice for benign facial skin pigmentation, age spots, brown spots and broken blood vessels, the small red spots called telangiectasia, on the face, hands, neck and Décolletage. Photofacial treatments are now preferred over laser treatments for these specific pigment and vascular lesions. Results of photofacial non-surgical anti-aging skin care treatments can be excellent--see before and after pictures of photofacial treatments of neck and decolletage below:

How Do Photofacial or Intense Pulsed Light Non-surgical anti-aging Skin Care Treatments Work?

Photofacial or IPL anti-aging skin care treatments use a bright flash of visible light, like the light of a camera flash to remove pigment and blood vessels non-surgically from the skin. This pulsed or flashed light is very different from a laser and in most instances, less powerful and less dangerous that laser light.

I use a Photofacial IPL machine called the LuxGreen IPL made by Palomar Medical Laser Company in Burlington, Massachusetts. Palomar Medical is the premier manufacturer of Aesthetic Laser and Light therapy machines in the world. The LuxGreen Photofacial is the best Photofacial technology I have ever used. The LuxGreen Photofacial IPL machine is very effective and is the most comfortable for you the patient of any IPL device available.

Photofacial skin rejuvenation works by passing a flash of bright light through a filter that only allows a specific color of light in the flash to pass through the filter and hit the skin. In the case of the LuxGreen Photofacial, only light with a wavelength of 550nm (nm=nanometers or one millionth of a meter and is the measure of the green light wavelength in the visible light spectrum) to pass through the IPL filter and hit the skin.

The LuxGreen IPL 550nm light is selectively absorbed or taken up by the brown pigment in an age spot or the dark reddish brown color of blood in a blood vessel. When the Photofacial light energy is absorbed by the pigment or blood vessel, the heat from the Photofacial or IPL light destroys the pigment or blood vessel by heating it. Results can be excellent--see before and after picture of photofacial anti-aging skin care treatment of face below:

before and after pictures of photofacial non-surgical anti-aging skin care treatment of face

This process is called Target Specific Photothermolysis. A specific target, that is a color, is heated (thermo) with a light (photo) beam and dissolved or destroyed (lysis).

Using color filters placed in front of the Intense Pulsed Light beam, a wide variety of colors can be allowed through to treat many different skin conditions including hair removal (LuxRed), acne (LuxViolet), and others.

What Will My Skin Look Like Immediately After a Photofacial Skin Care Treatment?

Unlike lasers, which can cause the skin to peel and possibly leave scars, the Lux Green IPL treatments are very gentle on the skin. The pigment in the brown spot or age spot will darken very slightly, and the treated blood vessel will also darken a bit. However the skin will be intact. The treated areas may also be slightly pink for a few hours.

We place ice or a cool pack on the treated area immediately and this also may make the skin pink. However, the pinkness may be covered with makeup immediately. You may return to work. And your skin will be nearly normal the next day.

Does An Intense Pulsed Light Skin Care Treatment Hurt?

There is minimal discomfort during an IPL care treatment. Anesthesia or numbing medicine is not required. When the IPL flash hits the skin you will feel a small snap or sting, but this is easily tolerated by all of my patients.

How Many IPL Skin Care Treatments will I Need?

Usually 3 IPL skin care treatments are required spaced 4-5 weeks apart for the best results. Multiple treatments are the price for gentle treatments that are not painful and do not injure the skin.

Technically enough power can be used to remove the brown spot or blood vessel in one treatment, but this energy level would be painful, blister the skin and possibly leave a scar. This is what happened with old time laser treatments, and the new IPL is designed to remove pigment and blood vessels painlessly and with no trace or scar left behind. To accomplish this we need to stage the removal in 2-3 treatments 4-5 weeks apart. The results are well worth the wait.

How Soon after My Intense Pulsed Light Skin Care Treatment Will I See a Result?

Generally you will see the results of your IPL skin care treatment at 4-5 weeks. The brown spot will be lighter or gone and the red spot or blood vessel will be much smaller. Some patients with thin skin and very light pigment or small broken blood vessels will see complete removal after one treatment.

However most people see definite improvement 5 weeks after the IPL treatment and require 2 more treatments for complete removal.

Who Should I Consult For My Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Skin Care Treatment?

The best IPL machines are found in a physician’s office. Less powerful IPL machines are allowed to be used in Spas, but results are not as effective with these downgraded machines. In my experience patients do not get the results that they want in a spa, and often come to my practice for repeat treatments with the LuxGreen IPL after having already spent money for IPL in a spa.

The other benefit of having your IPL treatment in a physician’s office is that you will be examined by a doctor who can properly diagnose your skin condition. Some brown lesions are dangerous and require medical evaluation and should not be treated with Intense Pulsed Light. If you have Rosacea or larger blood vessels on your face, a different therapy is required. These are medical treatments and should be done in a doctor’s office. Your skin will be evaluated for more serious skin conditions, and you will receive more effective Intense Pulsed Light skin care treatments.

How Do I Find a Good Doctor to Do My Intense Pulsed Light Skin Care Treatment?

Light based and laser non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatments are best done by a doctor who is well trained and specializes in anti-aging skin treatments. Your safest bet is to seek consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist who has experience in laser and light based therapies such as Intense Pulsed Light.

I am of course prejudiced because I am a board certified plastic surgeon. However, a plastic surgeon is trained and capable of providing the full range of non-surgical and surgical skin anti-aging procedures and can customize your skin treatments to your unique face. Doctors who cannot provide all treatments are tempted to “fit your unique face” into the particular skin treatment they offer, and that is not the best situation for you.

Good sources of honest objective information about choosing a physician are available at the following sources:

Anti Aging Skin Care Lotion Benefits

Author: Renata Nyleve

The benefits of using an anti aging lotion on your skin are great for women and men. A good lotion is an easy way to boost confidence in a person's body, especially if used regularly on the face.

Skin needs the nutrients and vitamins replenished, and a skin care lotion that is used to combat the aging process is usually the best way to keep a steady regimen. Most lotions have the ability to promote new cell growth on the face, which is the best way to keep wrinkles and thinning skin under control.

Hector Milla Editor of the "Best Anti Aging Creams" website -- http://www.BestAntiAgingCreams.tv -- pointed out;

"…The confidence is apparent in a person when he or she uses and anti aging lotion. If the skin is very dry or damaged a good lotion is great for making it look better, fast. Once some of the damage is undone, the lotion will work against time to keep a person's skin younger than it should be…"

The nutrients and vitamins in a lotion that is specifically used to defy age, are important for the skin to get what it looses in every day life replenished. Some lotions take longer than others to work, depending on the person's skin and past skin care. When a person starts a new product for skin care, it is good to have the area clean and dead skin removed, for the maximum benefit.

New cell growth is important, when trying to combat the aging process. An anti aging lotion will promote new cell growth in thinning areas under the eyes, and where wrinkles are apparent. The lotion will generally give the skin a healthy glow and fade the areas that people find unappealing, because of age.

"…The benefits of a skin care lotion, which promotes a younger face are extensive. Many people start using a lotion in their 30's to ease into the aging process gracefully, but the benefits are still seen in people that are older. The first thing a person sees on another person is usually his or her face, keeping it young always helps with confidence and first impressions…" added H. Milla.

Anti Aging Skin Care And Idebenone

Author: Ken Black

Idebenone (pronounced eedy-be-known), a super antioxidant, is now being used in select anti-aging skin care products. That's good news for you if you need to get rid of some extra wrinkles that none of us can avoid as we grow older.

While idebenone has been known for a long time as a pharmaceutical agent, it has arrived to the realm of skin care only recently. In fact, some skin care companies claim it as a new, cutting-edge discovery. But, can it really benefit your skin?

In the 1970s and 1980s, researchers had been studying the potential of Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), including its ability to improve heart failure, reduce free radical damage and slow down certain neurological conditions. CoQ10, a vitamin-like natural compound found in all aerobic organisms, plays an important role in cellular energy production and is also an effective antioxidant. Trying to boost CoQ10's therapeutic effects, scientists synthesized and tested a variety of its chemical analogs and derivatives. Most of these derivatives were found ineffective or unsafe. However, one of the few exceptions was idebenone.

It is closely related to CoQ10 in its structure. However, idebnone is more effective than CoQ10 in protecting cells from the free radical damage resulting from reduced blood flow.

What does all this have to do with skin care? Recently CoQ10 has been shown to improve skin wrinkles. Not surprisingly, some skin care companies decided that CoQ10 analogs might do a similar or better job. So, they found out that idebenone was also a good anti-wrinkle remedy.

It's important to realize that free radicals that form in the skin in response to the sun's ultraviolet rays are largely responsible for wrinkling and other signs of aging. To fight these damaging molecules, cosmetic chemists developed this topical antioxidant that's even more powerful than natural antioxidants such as vitamins C and E.

Results of a clinical trial were presented in February 2004 at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology. They wanted to find out which ingredient offered the best protection against free radicals. Well, it was idebenone that finished first against vitamin C, vitamin E, coenzyme Q10, kinetin, and alpha-lipoic acid.

The benefits of this ingredient include shielding skin from environmental damage, improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and reducing dryness and smoothing skin texture.

Antioxidants help protect against the damage caused by free radicals in the environment. Free radicals are unstable compounds that occur naturally in the body and try to stabilize by attaching to the nearest normal cell. This results in a chain-reaction because once the free radical attaches to a healthy cell, it too becomes a free radical in search of stabilization causing cellular damage. Antioxidants, such as idebenone and others, stop this process by donating a molecule to the free radical making it stable.

But, you should know that although idebenone is thought of as a wrinkle reducer, it is more of a skin protector. It is a true antiaging phenomena because it blocks the causes of aging and treats its effects. For best results, use it in addition to a broad spectrum sunblock.

However, this all comes at a price. This wonderful ingredient is priced at up to $120 an ounce. As you know, nothing known to science will erase all signs of aging, but this formula helps with its ability to decrease collagen breakdown (which means less apparent wrinkles and lines) and reduce inflammation.

It's available in the following lotions:

-Prevage from Allergan.

-True Cosmetics Youth Revealing Complex.

-Radiance Revealing Complex.

-Revitol Anti Wrinkle Complex.

You can get these products containing idebenone from Dermatologists' or Plastic Surgeons' offices, Spas, Fine Salons, or online.

Your skin never had it so good!

Collagen Marine Anti-Aging ...

Look younger practicing different forms of anti-aging skin care

Author: Aakash Shah

Aging is a natural process that takes place in everyone. Though nothing can be done to stop aging, it is possible to reduce the effects of aging of the skin with the use of anti-aging products like creams, lotion and food. There is no fixed formula for anti-aging skin care as the different stages of life call for different forms of skin care.

The most important thing that a woman in the 20s should use for anti aging is sunscreen. This is because the damage that the sun causes to your skin in your 20s will show up later in life in the form of wrinkles and age spots. Use a good cleanser and eye cream in your daily routine to prevent aging while if you frequently stay up late, use a concealer to disguise dark circles.

You can even out your skin tone with the help of a lightweight tinted moisturizer and use a stick foundation of your skin tone to cover blemishes. When in the 30s, you could continue with these skin care habits, and add a blush to look prettier. It is better to have a neutral lip color handy at all times that can be put on without looking at the mirror.

It is never too late to start using sunscreen. So if you have not started the habit of using sunscreen, you could start in the 40s too. Redness can be covered, and skin tone evened out with the help of foundation while eyeliner and mascara helps in adding definition to your eyes. If your hair has grayed, you could try out different hair colors as highlights or all over color to brighten your face.

When in your 50s, you could use an additional creamy foundation with moisturizing ingredients to moisturize your skin. Try using an extra rich formula with which the skin looks fresher, with noticeable lines. As definition is important in this stage of life, lip pencil has to be used to keep lipstick from feathering while eyeliner is used to make eyes stand out.

You can gracefully age into the 60s by lightening, and not darkening your hair color. It is preferable to use a haircut that does not need a curler to look younger at this age. Whatever skincare and makeup formula that you use at this age has to be rich and creamy. This is to ensure that they glide over wrinkles, and not settle in them. Once you use cream that blends easily into skin, you find that it gives a fresh glow to the skin.

It is also beneficial practicing ant-aging skin care when in the 70s, as it is never too late to be young. This is the time when you have to use a rich moisturizer or balm everyday, whether or not you wear makeup. It is not that advisable to wear heavy foundations in this time of your life as it looks like a mask. Instead, switch to lightweight formulas that you used to wear when you were in the 20s. You will have to use shadow and eyebrow brush to fill in eyebrows to get a natural look.

So it can be seen that the different stages of life need different types of anti-aging skin care, using different anti-aging skin care products. Start at a young age, to look younger for a longer time.

Anti Aging Facial Products - Helping You Choose The Best

Author: Christine Pinkett

Confused about which anti aging facial product is the right one for you? It can be difficult to make a decision - no longer is it simply a case of just popping to your local department store for a jar of whatever anti wrinkle product is currently in vogue.

Research into anti aging skin care and what specific products will help you maintain your looks for longer has come a long way. People want to not only feel young but put off the signs of aging skin for as long as they can.

With the information age and the internet, we are constantly exposed to celebrity and what they are doing to maintain their looks. Their diets, exercise regime and the type of anti aging facial care they use are all of huge interest to us.

Factors To Consider Before Buying an Anti Aging Facial Cream

What makes any anti wrinkle product successful is the kind of ingredients used in its
manufacture. More and more, people favour natural and organic products because they are
kinder to the skin and there is a reduced risk of side effects.

None the less, don't be put off if the wrinkle product you are considering purchasing is not 100% natural. Just make sure that there are a selection of natural ingredients included.  The more natural ingredients there are, the less the requirement for synthetic ones.

Sometimes it can be difficult to ascertain whether a particular product will suit your
skin type without having a good idea what kind of ingredients you should be looking for
on the jar. This is where it can be very convenient to avail of a free trial before you
buy any anti aging facial cream.

The most expensive wrinkle cream does not equal the best anti aging facial product.
Some of these products are quite expensive and unless you know that it suits you, you
might end up being disappointed.

Anti-Aging Skin Care: 14 Ways to Reduce those Annoying Eye Bags

Author: Wendy Wilken

Eye bags make a person look older. How do we diminish those annoying bags under the eyes and get them to look lighter as part of an anti-aging skin care program?

Eye bags are caused by the liver’s cleansing process of the body’s digestive impurities. As you get older (especially in men and women over 40), you will experience more puffiness under the eyes because the body has less ability to expel these impurities, making your anti-aging efforts that much harder.

Here are a few anti-aging skin care tips to reduce any eye bag problems:

• Try obtaining more sleep. The dark rings around the eyes are often a good indication that you’re not getting enough of your beauty sleep. The average adult human requires eight hours of sleep a night.

• Drink at least one liter of water per day, preferably warm.

Cut down or eradicate smoking.

• Avoid fried foods, red meat, fast foods, soft drinks, carbonated water, sugar, table salt, synthetic sweeteners, alcohol and caffeine, foods containing baking powder, and cold foods. Try not to drink liquids before retiring to bed at night.

• Apply face masks over the entire face. Use cucumber slices, chilled thinly sliced potato pieces, or cooling pads around the eye area, for about 10 to 15 minutes, a few times a week. This will temporarily reduce the depth and dark discoloration of the eye bags. Lie on your back while doing this, and relax as much as possible so as to reduce stress.

• Immerse cotton wool in cold milk or water, and apply to the eye bags by lying down on your back with your feet elevated higher than your head.

• Eat more raw honey, fresh fruit, unrefined sea salt, nuts, seeds, whole grains, and drink vegetable juices.

• Take a multi-vitamin and mineral combination supplement once per day or as directed.

• Vitamin K as a supplement or foods rich in Vitamin K such as spinach, beets, and turnips, is extremely beneficial to reducing bags under the eyes.

Avoid allergens that trigger nasal congestion such as pet hair, dust, and pollens. Try sleeping with an extra pillow to elevate the sinuses so that mucus does not build up in the sinuses and nasal cavities.

• Exaggerated eye bag puffiness in the morning can be temporarily treated by placing chilled table spoons on the areas under the eyes to reduce the swelling.

Try not to use eyeliner; rather use an eye shadow that’s similar to the color of your eyelids to mask the discoloration of the bags under your eyes.

Do not use exfoliators such as retinoid, alpha hydroxyl acid, salicylic acid around the eyes, as these could irritate the skin and aggravate the swelling.

Massage the area under the eyes. Use your forefingers, and firmly massage the eye bags using a small circular motion. By doing this as often as possible, you will minimize the swelling, lift the sagging skin, and reduce the fatty digestive deposits that have gathered in the eye bags. Do it at the bus stop, in traffic, in front of the television; you'll see the difference in a few days!

Reducing eye bags are very important in your anti-aging efforts. Looking younger is a process that encompasses many things. By minimizing those puffy eye bags, you will be well on your way to looking younger than your years.

Anti Aging Drugs - Are They Safe?

Author: Kelly Purden

While taking anti aging drugs won't make you stay young forever, it could delay your body's vulnerability to diseases, because of aging, a little longer. The factors that make anti aging drugs effective have to do with how much the human body should and could absorb certain nutrients. The use of Anti aging drugs have been recommended by medical experts through the years because of the alleged good effects which they have on the human body. However, it will still help to conduct thorough research about these anti aging drugs before deciding to include any combination to your daily dietary intake. Below are the common types of anti aging drugs and their known effects to the human body.

Anti oxidants

Among the many kinds of anti aging drugs in the market, anti oxidants are the most potent. These dietary supplements are marketed to target specific toxins which the human body needs to flush out. These toxins could be UV rays-related or caused by stress and lack of exercise. The primary ingredient of anti oxidants is fruit extracts. Taken by its self, anti oxidants are generally safe and effective. It's similar to taking multivitamins. People undergoing medication should, however, research on the adverse effects of each anti oxidant with their prescription medicine. Should it prove to counter the effects of the prescribed medicine, an individual should discontinue use as soon as possible. A long and informed talk with your physician about anti aging drugs should be more than helpful. The most popularly known antioxidant are vitamin C, E, and A

Photochemicals

Photochemicals are chemicals which are derived from plants. These ingredients are believed to be cancer-preventive. Among the most common are Flavonoids, which may be found in tea or coffee. Taken in moderation, these are proven to have antioxidant qualities similar to vitamin C. People should be careful about taking in too much caffeine though, which are also present in most plants containing Flavonoids.

Food containing some PhotoEstrogen ingredients are said to prevent estrogen-related cancer like prostate, breast, and colon cancers. Food types containing these include soy products, flax seed, garlic, onion, leeks, and chives. People who are taking in this type of photochemicals need to stay updated about developments, though, as the use of these supplements is still being studies. Recently, eating tofu, which is a soy product, was reported to trigger the growth of breast cancer cells in women. The effects of these photochemicals are harmless when they are taken in moderation. Any sort of intake abuse, however, can lead to unnecessary dietary imbalance.

Folic acid

Among the oldest known anti aging ingredient in dietary supplements is folic acid. Up to this day, folic acid is still known for reducing the risk of heart diseases. Similar anti aging ingredients include Vitamin B5, which improves the body's ability to handle stress. Most heart diseases are triggered by excess stress, and a combination of folic acid and Vitamin B5 supplements in one's diet should lower the risk or cardiac problems dramatically.

Aging is accompanied by a decrease in your metabolic rate and an associated increase in your fat storage. As such, your body fails to burn excess fat as we grow older. To combat this anti-aging effect we need to control our metabolic rate by increasing daily activities. The best way to do this is to perform a 20 minute cardio-vascular fitness program a few days a week to help rev up your metabolism. The best time to perform this fat burning workout is when you wake and before breakfast. This is the perfect time to workout because while you slept, your body depleted all the carbohydrates in your system, and since you have an empty stomach your body is forced to use your fat stores to provide energy for the workout.

Keep Your Heart Strong

Growing older also means a reduction in the ability of the heart to pump blood through the circulatory system. In addition, build up in the arteries also contributes to this reduced ability. Since your heart is a muscle its function and circulatory capability can be improved by aerobic exercise. Remember to always consult your doctor when starting any fitness program. However, I once heard a doctor say that if they could put exercise into a pill form, it would be the most prescribed pill known to mankind. As such, using exercise to keep the heart strong is an important factor in any anti-aging program.

Your Brain is a Muscle Too!

Anti-aging research has shown that memory capacity declines if the brain is not involved in mental functions. Mental inactivity causes poor memory function or in some cases memory loss. Playing games, participating in social activities, problem solving, reading and writing will all help “exercise” the brain. Exercising your brain will not only improve cognitive function but will also help eliminate boredom and depression.

Lung Capacity

Did you know that the oxygen uptake test, the one where they measure your lung capacity while your on a treadmill, is so accurate that if they gave a group of people the test and then had that same group run a distance race they could predict how each individual would place in the race before the race ended. With aging comes a reduced elasticity of the lungs and thus a reduced oxygen uptake or breathing capacity. Aerobic or cardio exercise is an anti-aging solution that will increase the breathing capacity of the lungs.

Increase Your Lean Tissue or Muscle Mass

As you age your metabolism slows and you begin to lose muscle. Actually, muscle loss is a symptom of aging. However, you can increase muscle mass, burn fat, and increase your metabolism all at the same time. This is accomplished through an aerobic weight training workout. By using light weights that you can repeat 12 to 15 times per muscle group you will not only increase muscle mass and metabolic rate but also reduce fat stores. In addition, strength training exercises will increase your lean tissue which in turn increases your basal (resting) metabolic rate. Combining an aerobic weight training workout with a diet high in protein and low in fat is a good start for any anti-aging fitness program.

Stay Flexible

Stretching should be a part of any natural anti-aging fitness program. You not only warm up your muscles for the workout but also prevent any unnecessary injuries during the workout. Staying flexible will also eliminate any muscle cramping that is sometimes associated with aging. Moreover, being limber helps you perform better in your day to day anti-aging activities.

Your View of Yourself

Does growing old mean avoiding the bathroom scale or looking into a mirror? The way you perceive yourself is very important to your overall physical, mental and spiritual self. People are flocking to doctors for expanding waistlines and hair loss. Their buying anti-aging skin care products and cosmetics for younger looking skin and the list goes on. Your long-term whole-body physical, mental and spiritual picture of yourself is an important factor of your anti-aging program.

Bridge the Gap

Taking the steps necessary to take care of yourself will help you “bridge the gap” to a longer life. Developing a solid anti-aging program and strategy is essential. Without a plan or a process things are just left up to chance. You yourself can only implement the steps that will take you down the path of becoming a centenarian.

In conclusion, anti-aging overall is multidisciplinary. It involves, in part, the 12 factors discussed here but also total whole-body wellness and longevity. It involves incorporating the ingredients of wellness and longevity into your lifestyle. Anti-aging is an individual process - you decide what ingredients are part of the program. Anti-aging is what makes you feel good. It is what makes you “anti-age”!
